The Problem Nobody Was Solving

Here’s something that surprised us when we first started researching this space. English proficiency exams like the PTE are genuinely high-stakes. A few points either way can determine whether someone gets their visa approved, gets into their preferred university, or qualifies for professional registration. And yet most PTE practice test AI tools on the market were… not great.

Static question banks. Delayed scoring. No insight into why someone got the score they did. Students would practise for weeks, take a mock, see a number, and have no idea what to actually change. Coaching centres had the same problem but at scale. They could enrol 500 students, sure. But personalised feedback for 500 students? Impossible without AI.

That gap bothered us. It was the kind of problem where AI-powered exam preparation could make a genuinely meaningful difference, not just an incremental one. So we built the solution ourselves.

What We Actually Built

Marvel PTE isn’t a client project. It’s not something we built for someone else and then slapped our logo on. It’s our product, start to finish. Conceived, designed, engineered, and delivered by the SIAGB team.

We built a custom AI scoring engine that evaluates speaking, writing, reading, and listening responses in real time. Not “we’ll get back to you in 24 hours” real time. Actual real time. You finish a mock test, you see your score breakdown immediately, skill by skill.

Then we wrapped that engine in an adaptive learning system. The platform watches how each student performs, identifies patterns (maybe they consistently lose marks on “describe image” or their speaking fluency drops after the first 30 seconds), and adjusts their study plan accordingly. It focuses their time where it’ll actually move the needle.

We went from concept to production in under 6 months. That’s fast, even by startup standards. And the platform now supports three exam formats: PTE Academic, PTE Core (with the 2025 format changes already built in), and LanguageCert Academic. The question bank updates continuously, removing outdated content and adding new exam patterns as they emerge.

The Template Detector (This One’s Interesting)

Here’s a feature that came out of a real problem we kept seeing. Students were memorising response templates for speaking and writing sections. “In the given picture, I can see…” followed by the same structure every single time. And it worked… until Pearson started flagging templated responses.

So we built a proprietary template detector. It scans student responses against known template databases, flags high-risk patterns, and suggests alternative structures that score better. It’s probably the feature our users talk about most, because it’s the one that prevents nasty surprises on exam day.

Weird, right? The most popular feature isn’t the flashiest one. It’s the one that stops people from making a mistake they didn’t even know they were making.
